Room 10 is...independent, creative and full of care and intelligence. We are kind and respectful to people inside and outside of our classroom. We are full-on cooperative and full of smiles.
This week we have been on a field trip to Antarctica. We have been participating in an audio-conference being broadcast live from Scott Base. Kate Sparks has been telling us all about different aspects of live on the ice. We have also been immersing ourselves in all things Antarctica by: creating reports, asking questions, joining in the back channel, finding out about Antarctic animals, and completing different online activities.
We are having a great time at Ulearn14 in Rotorua this week. Ulearn is a 3-day conference devoted to helping teachers and schools better use computers in the classroom. We have been talking to and listening to other teachers and professionals about things we can all do to get more connected. I've got some great ideas for Room 10...so get ready!!!
For Minecraft Club today, the students were given the task of creating a bridge that people can either walk over or under. We all used a different approach to create something really cool. Some of us even put fish into our water. Well done on using your creativity and persistence.
In Room 10 we created 'Tui's in Flax' pictures using a mix of vivids, crayon, and dye. We worked on getting the lines for the different types of feather in the right place and making sure the flax in the background overlapped its leaves. We think we did a pretty awesome job and hope you think so too. Be sure to check out our artwork in the room 10 folder in the library.
We all got out today for our Jump Rope For Heart Skip-a-Thon. We had a lot of fun trying out all our tricks. Make sure you bring in your envelopes and any money that you raised for the cause.
It's been a long time coming, but we finally launched our water powered rockets. We built our rockets last term and have been waiting for a really still day to launch our rockets.
The rockets use compressed air to fly, and we made them to show how energy can be used to move things.
On Thursday we held another writing slam. Students can choose a piece of writing that they have done really well on and they share it with the class. I have put some of the writing on our 'Room 10's Work' page.
We have writing slam every Thursday at 2:40. If anybody wants to join us to listen, you are more than welcome.
