Maths Resources

Not sure what to do to practice maths at home?  Try some of these ideas.

The Rocket Books - Use the Rocket books to figure out where to start.  Each student has 2 books, one at home and one at school.

Ask maths questions - Use spare time to ask maths questions.  Sitting in a car is a great place to run through the times tables.

Use the Rocket to make up a sheet - Make a quick quiz using 10 questions from the Rocket book.

Worksheets - Some students love using worksheets, but they can be pretty hard to make up.  Try using a worksheet creator to make your own.  You don't have to print them off, just read them on the screen and write the answers on a sheet of paper.

Tutpup - Set aside 15 minutes a day to 'play' tutpup.  You can join at  Tutpup.  It's easy for kids to navigate this site are there don't seem to be any advertisements.

Math Playground - this is a site similar to Tutpup where students can join maths games and 'compete' against other players.  The games are quite good, but there are quite a few ads at the top of the page.

Matheletics - Some families joined Mathletics last year and are still using the site.  Check it out, it might be a great place to get practice.

IXL - This is alternative to Matheletics.  You can click here to try some of the practice pages, but at some stage you will be asked to join to access the pages.

Textbooks - Did you know that bookstores sell mathematics textbooks?  Some students are practicing straight out of textbooks that are used in some schools.  Click here for a sample of books available from Whitcoulls.

Books about Maths for kids - Murderous Maths is a series of books all about maths.  If your child likes reading, then keep a lookout for this series, they are often in the Scholastic Book Club.
